Blessed is most definitely the word I would use to describe the way I feel about being the photographer chosen to photograph the Marcum Wedding.  After attending undergraduate college at Alice Lloyd College with the couple, it was always apparent how in love they were, and continue to be. (Surprisingly, I made it through the entire day without saying “Tennessee” (groom’s nickname) even one time!)

Hillary and Tyler’s May 13, 2017 wedding will be one that I won’t soon forget. It was only a matter of time before they tied the knot! Keep reading and I’ll tell you about all the unique, beautiful things I witnessed at this ceremony!

Venue

There’s something about entering the Appalachian Mountains that will make just about anyone feel at home. This weekend, I was able to travel back to where my roots sprouted to this lovely venue at which I’ve had the opportunity to photograph many weddings. Four Star Village never fails to bring the wedding couple a new, custom experience with their rustic barn setting, and lovely gazebo ceremony area. It is the perfect spot for the bride looking for a classic country style with a vintage twist!

Floral

The artist behind the perfect floral accents of the bouquet and tablescapes and bouquets is Tammy Ashley of Unique Treasures located in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. I’ve seen a lot of highly impressive work from Tammy, and let me tell you something: she doesn’t disappoint!

Bridesmaids

I’ve told Hillary this already, but I don’t think she could have chosen more fun bridesmaids! The girls were so welcoming and kind, but they were more than eager to take some hilarious pictures that I wont post publicly, but the bride will be able to keep for later use! Here are some fun shots of this lively group of young women.

The Gorgeous Bride

It is no secret that the new Mrs. Marcum made s stunning bride. One I got started photographing her, I literally could not make myself stop! You can see for yourself why:

The First Look

First look photos are by far some of my favorite shots of the day when a couple elects to do them. It gives us so much more time to spend on portraits of the happy two, and gives them a special alone moment to really let go of their emotions and have a once in a lifetime experience with one another. Check out their first look:

The Wedding Couple

We spent some time taking some enchanting images of the Marcums to be sure we captured the essence of their relationship together. It was adorable to watch how they reacted to one another, and how every moment was filled with an abundance of giggles and natural smiles.

The Wedding Party

Here are some photos of the fun wedding party that kept me rolling the whole time! Also, the tiniest flower girl was absolutely darling in her little wagon that her parents pulled her down the aisle in!

A Penny for Good Luck

You’ve heard the old saying “a penny for your thoughts,” but did you know that it is a tale that wearing a penny inside your shoe on your wedding day can bring you good luck and fortune in your future? This was an extra fun moment I was happy to capture!

The Ceremony

The unique ceremony was truly an incredible sight to witness. First, the father of the bride not only walked the bride down the aisle, but also was the officiant presiding over the wedding! How special it was to have her father be the one to wed her to her partner for life.

I’m very accustomed to hearing music over the speakers as the wedding procession begins. At the very least a violin playing, or some other form of display of Canon in D Minor. However, what really made the ceremony stand out from all other weddings I’ve ever witnessed, was the presence of Old Regular Baptist singing to mark the occasion. If you’re unfamiliar with line singing, one person, a groomsmen in this case, sings a line from a hymn, in which the congregation (or in this case wedding guests) returns by singing the line as a group. Many of the guests were very involved and it was an extraordinarily spiritual moment, which I know the couple and their families appreciated.

Prayer

The next uncommon experience I had was the presence of a prayer between the bride and groom. It is typical to have a prayer for the newly weds, but I had never seen it done in this manner. The couple kneeled as the prayer was spoken, and were encompassed by the blessings being bestowed upon them. It was a remarkable sight and something I will not forget–a marvelous display of welcoming their faith into their new marriage.
